So this past week, my husband and I took a trip to the Dry Tortugas, which is a series of small islands about 70 miles off the coast of Key West. You can only get to it by boat or seaplane, and its home to Fort Jefferson, amazing coral reefs and magnificent blue waters. This trip was just what I needed to rejuvenate my spirit.
The water………no words can describe its beauty; and the colors were something so astounding- one could only hope to work it into a design.We went to the Island by ferry, and the trip was a little over two hours long. And when you arrived, it was definitely worth the wait. The water………no words can describe its beauty; and the colors were something so astounding- one could only hope to work it into a design. I couldn’t get over how clear and untouched the island was. We snorkeled for hours and enjoyed the serenity. I couldn’t help but start to think of different designs to work these tropical colors into!
Besides the stunning water and snorkeling, there was Fort Jefferson, which was built during the civil war and was then turned into a prison. This history and architecture of this fort was absolutely insane. You can walk all the way up onto the top, and the views are something you cannot even try to describe! The fort was comprised of over 16 million bricks, and it is breathtaking! Its amazing that although its been battered by the elements and and was never fully finished, the craftsmanship that was done, you don’t see anymore.

I couldn’t help but love the spiral design on the staircases- that went up 3 stories!
